Why Discipline Matters More Than Talent in Martial Arts.

With enough effort and time, most people can become good at martial arts. I once saw a video and a man asked a BJJ coach "How hard is it to get a black belt in BJJ?" The coach replied "Not hard at all." The original man laughed and then the coach said "If you stay long enough it will happen." Now I'm sure not every BJJ coach would agree with that sentiment, and neither do I. Attending class does not mean reward. You get out of training what you put into it. You still have to show up, learn, improve, struggle, and work hard.

There is an adage that says "Hard work beats talent everyday." It's true. I have trained in eleven different styles and have succeeded in all of them. Some styles didn't really match my body style or personality but i still fund a way to succeed.

I promise you this; as long as you don't have any major restrictions such as physical or mental handicaps and you show up regularly and work hard, in time, you will surpass those who have natural talent and quit. Expect to struggle. Expect to hurt. Expect to get frustrated. Expect it to take longer than you want it to. If you do that, show up regularly, work hard, learn, improve, and struggle, I promise you that you will surpass all those with more talent that quit.

If you are looking for a place to begin martial arts training, are looking for self-defense training, or just looking for a challenge and you live in or near Shawnee, Ok., we would love to meet you!

Be Blessed,

Coach Chance
